Tour Extensions with Shimla & Manali

Located in the north-west Himalayas, Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the county. Described by many as a travelers paradise, it offers a plethora of elements from a picture postcard – snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys, rapid river-ways, hillsides strewn with flora, isolated lakes, quaint cottages, serene monasteries and revered temples.

Having the claim of serving as the summer capital of the British for several years, this hillside town has still retained its charm and managed to resist much of the influence of the big-city syndrome that seems to beset smaller places.

Shimla is also a treat for those interested in adventure activities and offers various options in terms of mountaineering, trekking, fishing, hiking, etc. and even has its own golf course, Naldera, the highest golf-course in the world. It has thick patches of forests that are filled with oak and pine trees serving the dual purpose of acting as camping sites as well as scenic destinations and quiet getaways within themselves.

A special feature of Shimla is the quaint hill train that chugs up and down into the Shivalik foothills, giving all its travelers a toyland feeling as they careen through the hillside in what seems to be lapse into the past, going beyond the dry mechanism of technological advance as contrasted to the warmth and adventure of the days of yore. Shimla is also the town of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, once the home to the Viceroy, and is popular amongst tourists and scholars alike. It also has musems and several sits of historic value.

For those who visit Shimla an almost automatic extension seems to be Manali , which is only a short distance. Described at one point as the "End of the Habitable World," Manali is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the northern hills. Like in Shimla, here too the options for adventure activities are immense, right from rafting, kayaking, paragliding and even snow-biking.

Due to its height and relative distance from the maddening crowds of the plains, Manali is a huge favorite amongst honeymooners who flock to the destination in search of privacy, romance and escape from the humdrum of everyday living. The several resorts and cottages available here make such an excursion worthwhile and married couples often look back at the time they spent here, gazing over the snow peaks, frolicking in the snow, trekking over hillsides and taking solitary walks in an atmosphere of beauty, peace, tranquility and magic.

Close to Manali one can also visit places like the Rohtang pass, Marhi, Sohlag Nalla, Rahla falls, Manu temple and the Manali Sanctuary.

Shimla and Manali, both, therefore, provide visitors with options of quiet moments, adrenal-based adventure, romantic escapades and historical enrichment. All you have to do is take your pick and prepare to be fulfilled in the manner of your preference!
