Ranthambore Pushkar Udaipur Tour
The city of Udaipur, also known as the ‘white city’ or the ‘city of lakes’ is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Rajasthan, the desert-adjoining state of India, surrounded by the verdant lushness of the Aravalli range. Established by Maharana Udai Singh in 1599 AD, ‘Udaipur’ literally means the ‘sunrise city’ and lies around the soothing and tranquil waters of Lake Pichola.
To add to the aesthetic value of the Udaipur, one has the City Palace, the largest palace in the state. Built of marble and granite, the Lake Palace complex comprises three smaller mahals - Baari, Dilkush and Moti, each more beautiful than the other, and overlooking lake Pichola. The intricate and skilled craftsmanship of the sculptors who worked to embellish the palace astound one with the minute detailing and craftsmanship revealed here. The Suraj Gokhada of the Sun Balcony, Rana Pratap’s Museum, the Mor Chowk so called for its peacock mosaics, and the revered shrine of a worshiped goddess called Dhuni Mata, are all key elements of this amazing structure.
Not very far from Udaipur is the small township of Pushkar, another tourist delight that is venue to the famous Pushkar cattle/camel fair and the site of the only Brahma temple in India.
The Pushkar lake is also extremely sacred, and thousands of people gather here to wash away their sins every Karthik Purnima, an occasion that also coincides with the aforementioned Pushkar fair. During this time each year, this small otherwise quiet city gets transformed into a vibrant, throbbing space filled with the colours, smells, sights and sounds of traditional, folk and local Rajasthani spirit. With song and dance, creatures and humans, gods and deities, lakes and hillsides, Pushkar is as sensually extravagant an experience as one can imagine.
